ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Beth Isaiah is excited and honoured to have Rabbi Elyse Goldstein and Susan Schwartz serving us together for High Holiday services this year.
Elyse Goldstein is currently Rabbi at City Shul, a congregation in downtown Toronto she founded in 2011. This synagogue holds prominence as one of the most creative synagogues in Canada. She is retiring in June, 2024 after 41 years in the active Rabbinate, including twenty years as the director of Kolel: The Adult Centre for Liberal Jewish Learning.
Rabbi Goldstein is recognized as a fiery speaker, skilled teacher and social justice advocate. In 2013 she was named one of America’s 50 Most Influential Rabbis by The Forward. In May 2017 she was awarded Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa from Ryerson University in recognition of her path-breaking work in Canada.
Serving together with Rabbi Goldstein will be Susan Schwartz, Jewish educator and Cantorial Soloist, who brings passion, spirituality and depth of experience to every service she leads. These leaders share the vision of creating participatory, joyful, engaging worship services, and are looking forward to being with us for this special time of the Jewish year.
High Holiday services will be both in-person and virtual.
